Best Buddies at Nipher Middle School Delighted by Special Visit from Miss Missouri

The Best Buddies group at Nipher Middle School enjoyed lunch and a read-aloud session with Miss Missouri, Hayley Leach. The occasion featured a reading of the children's book "Frankie and Finn," co-authored by Hayley and her brother Matthew, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of two.

"Frankie and Finn" illustrates the love between a boy and his dog, emphasizing the significance of accepting individuals with differences. Hayley, expressed the motivation to co-writing the book was to demonstrate the importance of inclusivity. “While many people understand how to be kind, not everyone comprehends the essence of being inclusive,” shared Hayley.

During the session, Hayley shared her personal experiences of having a sibling with special needs. She discussed the protective instincts she felt towards her brother and the concerns she had about the challenges he would encounter. "I felt the need to defend and protect him, while also wanting to educate people on being inclusive, kind, and good friends," remarked Hayley.

Hayley encouraged the Best Buddies group to embrace leadership roles and become advocates for others. "Please continue to work towards including others; it truly changes lives," she said.

The event was coordinated by Nipher teacher Allison Laxton, who also serves as the sponsor of the Nipher Best Buddies chapter.
