Kirkwood School District Board of Education Approves Hire of New Boys Head Basketball Coach at Kirkwood High School

At the regularly scheduled Kirkwood School District Board of Education meeting on Monday, June 27, the BOE approved the recommendation of the appointment of Sam Briscoe as the next
boys head basketball coach at Kirkwood High School. Briscoe will succeed Coach Jimmy
McKinney, who stepped down to take a new position outside of the Kirkwood school district.

Most recently, Briscoe served as the Assistant Coach at Drury University. Previously, he
coached at the National Level for the St. Louis Gateway Basketball Club and served as an
Assistant Coach at DeSmet High School. He also served as a skills coach for the Bazzell
Basketball Academy where he assisted in training accomplished athletes, including Candance
Parker, Mo Wagner, Doug McDermott, and Trae Young. He holds a degree in Business
Administration from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in Curriculum and
Instruction from Drury University.

"We are excited to welcome Sam Briscoe to our boys’ basketball program,” said Corey
Nesslage, KHS athletic director. "After speaking with several highly respected basketball
professionals throughout the entire metro area, it became very clear that Sam comes to us with a
great deal of character, integrity, work ethic, and an extremely high basketball IQ. We look
forward to the possibilities his leadership will bring and are enthusiastic about the positive
impact he will make on our student athletes in the coming seasons."
