Kirkwood High School Students Coordinate Diaper Drive Supporting St. Louis Area Diaper Bank
Over the past several weeks, students in the Kirkwood High School Innovation Center organized a Diaper Drive with proceeds benefitting the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank. Since mid-October, KHS junior class students, led by teachers Mr. Cotta and Mrs. Doneff, collected diapers and monetary donations during KHS homeroom class periods. On Thursday, November 4, the students and teachers involved in the program presented a check for $1,040.70 to the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank. The group then helped package the over 2,000 diapers also collected during the KHS diaper drive for delivery to their recipients.
The KHS Innovation Center fosters nurturing and supportive relationships in order to create powerful, engaging instruction and experiences that stretch students in ways they never envisioned so that they may become positive and productive citizens while at KHS and beyond. The Innovate Program is a voluntary program. Students struggling for a variety of reasons can be referred to the program. Counselors, administrators, teachers, parents and students themselves may make a referral.
St. Louis Area Diaper Bank strives to make a health, social and economic impact by not only providing diapers and period supplies but by connecting them to these resources and other resources through our partner agencies. Providing families in need with free diapers influences a range of positive outcomes for these families, such as positive changes in parental mood (reducing the risk of childhood abuse); improved child health and happiness (nurturing their ability to learn); and increased opportunities for childcare, work stability, and school attendance.
