Kirkwood High School Students Place in Writing Contest

Students in various English classes at Kirkwood High School recently submitted writings to the Southeast Missouri State (SEMO) annual Katherine Hinchey Cochran Writing Contest.  

 Three KHS students placed:

11th grade student Melodie Heaps in Katie Meyers’ class won honorable mention for her short story, "Hurricane."  

9th grade student Kailey Shirrell in Amy Leatherberry’s class won 1st place for her poem, "The Ocean, The Sand, The Rocks."

9th grade student Graeson Joyce in Deanna Hempen’s class won honorable mention for her short story, "Logging Into a Lie."

All winners will be celebrated on SEMO's campus on April 18 with their families.
