Sarah Lovett Receives Girl Scouts Highest Honor for Developing Play Space at Local Women’s Shelter
Kirkwood High School senior Sarah Lovett earned the Girl Scout Gold Award. Her project focused on the creation of a playroom at Lydia’s House. Lydia’s House provides safe, stable and supportive housing for women and children in crisis. Her project focused on the children who visit Lydia’s House, with their Mom, for various meetings or appointments or classes. The children had no area or room which was safe for them to go, away from their mothers. Sarah’s project involved cleaning out, painting, and organizing different areas for multiple areas including a reading area, TV viewing area, chalkboard area and crafting space. Now, the playroom is used and enjoyed by children of Lydia’s House clients.
By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, Sarah has become a community leader. Her accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart.
The Gold Award represents the highest achievement Girl Scouts can achieve. It recognizes girls in grades 9 through 12 who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through sustainable and measurable Take Action projects. Since 1916, girls have successfully answered the call to “Go Gold”, an act that indelibly marks them as accomplished members of their communities and the world.
Sarah is a four-year member of the KHS racquetball team and a photographer for the KHS yearbook. After graduating from KHS, Sarah plans on studying photography in college and aspires to be a sports photographer.
