NKMS Orchestra Selected to Perform at State Conference
North Kirkwood Middle School Orchestra (NKMS) was selected from a competitive pool of applicants to perform at the 2020 Missouri Music Educator's Association (MMEA) Conference and Workshop in January 2020 at the Tan-Tar-A Resort at Lake of the Ozarks, MO.
For the selection process, the students learned a difficult program and submitted a professional recording session to the MMEA selection committee. The NKMS orchestra was one of four orchestras selected state-wide to perform. Orchestras selected demonstrated excellence in music and performing and represent model orchestra programming.
The NKMS orchestra is comprised of 78 musicians in grades 6-8 playing violin, viola, cello or bass. The orchestra is conducted by Sarah Klevorn.
This is the NKMS orchestras first time performing at the MMEA conference. Nipher Orchestra performed in 2005, 2009 and 2014, and the Kirkwood High School Symphonic Orchestra performed in 1996, 2000, 2006 and 2012.
