Kirkwood High School Volleyball Team Hosts Pink Out to Spike Out Breast Cancer

On Tuesday, October 2, the Kirkwood High School varsity volleyball team hosted their 12th annual “Pink Out” event. Every year, the team selects a match in October to bring awareness of and raise funds for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer St. Louis which is the local chapter of the American Breast Cancer Society. The team raises money by selling “Pink Out” themed shirts and day of event collections. This year, the team collected over $6,000. This year’s donation will put the 12-year team donation total to over $30,000 since Pink Out started.

In David Holley Assembly Hall, the court and players were all donned in pink including pink court lines, a pink volleyball, and the players swapped out their regular jerseys and socks to pink. The referee used a hot pink whistle. While the Pioneers fell short in a hard-fought battle against Parkway West, the team still won the important battle of breast cancer awareness and raising funds for an important cause. “The stands were packed,” said assistant coach Kara Wall. “It truly was a magical night.”
