Coach McKinney Recommended for Boys Basketball Coach
Kirkwood High School (KHS) announced the recommendation of Mr. Jimmy McKinney as the Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach at the August 31, 2020 Board of Education meeting.
“We are excited to have Coach Mckinney join the Pioneers,” said Corey Nesslage, athletic director for KHS.
Coach McKinney comes to Kirkwood with an extensive basketball resume. A 2002 graduate of Vashon High School, McKinney was part of a three straight State Basketball Championship team. He also was named the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year, Missouri, and Mr. Show-Me Basketball.
After graduating from Vashon, he had a stellar career at the University of Missouri, where he was named Co-Freshman of the Year in the Big 12 conference. Upon graduating from the University of Missouri and enjoyed an extensive professional career in Germany for ten years.
Coach McKinney returned to his high school alma mater and was an integral member of the coaching staff who led the program to three straight State Championships.
“I want to thank the Kirkwood community and the high school for giving me the opportunity to be the head boys basketball coach,” Coach McKinney said. “I am ready to be a leader of young men of this school and community and build on an already good program. I have faith that I can make a difference. So trust me, I will do my best to make that happen. GO PIONEERS.”
