KHS Coach Receives Distinguished Coach Award from the Missouri Track Cross Country Coaches Association Award
Kirkwood High School assistant Track and Field Coach Chris Scott received the Distinguished Coach Award from the Missouri Track Cross Country Coaches Association (MTCCCA) this past weekend at the annual clinic in Columbia. This award is presented annually to outstanding assistant coaches.
Scott was nominated for the award by KHS Track and Field head coach Roberta McWoods.
“Chris has coached numerous athletes at KHS including individual state champions and All-state athletes,” said Roberta McWoods, KHS head track and field coach. “He is a comprehensive distance coach, utilizing a variety of training methods that help our athletes be successful. Chris is very valuable to the coaching staff and his coaching style upholds the legacy in the Track and Field program at Kirkwood High School.”
Scott’s accolades as a coach at KHS include assisting the boys track and field team finish third in state in 2018 and as coaching the boys 4x800 team with back-to-back state championships in 2018 and 2019.
Scott has coached athletes from across the St. Louis area for the past 35 years including John Burroughs, Lafayette High School, Riverview Garden High School, Berkey, and St. Louis University High School. These student athletes have amassed dozens of accolades including state championships and All-state honors.
Scott also currently serves as the health and physical education teacher at North Glendale Elementary School. Other KHS Track and Field coaches that are past recipients of the Distinguished Coach Award include April Maldonado, Mona Onyemelukwe, and Willie Parks.
