KSD Elementary Students Compete in Battle of the Books
Over 100 KSD elementary students competed in the inaugural Battle of the Books competition on Wednesday at Robinson Elementary. The Battle of the Books promotes a love of reading among students in grades 3-5 by encouraging students to read a list of 12 excellent books from classics to new award winners in a variety of genres and dealing with a wide range of themes and topics. Students are challenged to remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. They also learn cooperation and dedication as they compete in a team.
Each elementary school brought at least two teams of 10 students to the competition at Robinson. The winning team from each school will go on to compete in the St. Louis area book battle on May 9 against other area elementary schools. The final battle is a time for students to meet others across the St. Louis region who share their passion and dedication to reading. Each year, students grow as readers and leaders and we look forward to its impact continuing to grow each year.
