KHS Orchestras Showcase talents at National Festival

On Friday, March 15, 2024, the Kirkwood High School (KHS) Symphonic and Concert Orchestras showcased their exceptional talents at the National Heritage Festival held at the University of Texas at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. The orchestras competed against high school orchestras from across the country. Both ensembles earned a clean sweep of awards in their registered categories:

 

Concert Orchestra - Gold Rating

Symphonic Orchestra - Gold Rating

Concert Orchestra - Adjudicator Award - score of 95+ from all 3 judges

Symphonic Orchestra - Adjudicator Award - score of 95+ from all 3 judges

Symphonic Orchestra - Outstanding Orchestra Group - highest score of the festival

Kirkwood High School - Sweepstakes Award for Instrumental Program - highest score of any instrumental program for the festival

Angelina Casey - Ovation Award - for spirit and service to the music community

 

Students also had the opportunity to visit the Alamo, Riverwalk, and celebrated at Six Flags Fiesta. 



KHS’s orchestra is comprised of 110 students in grades 9-12. "We are so proud of our talented students and their incredible achievements on the national stage," said Sarah Klevorn, KHS Orchestra Teacher.
