KHS Kirkwood High School Student Recognized in C-SPAN National Video Documentary Competition
Kirkwood High School (KHS) junior Annalise Bancks received an Honorable Mention award for her C-SPAN StudentCam video documentary called "Killing Dead Zones."
According to the C-SPAN press release, the competition now in its 19th year, asked students to engage in a national conversation on the challenges our country is facing with the theme: "If you were a newly elected member of Congress, which issue would be your first priority and why?" Students were asked to create a 5-6 minute long video exploring this question. Nearly 3,000 students from around the country participated, and 150 winners were announced. For her Honorable Mention award, Annalise will receive a $250 cash prize. Annalise’s video can be found on the external link: https://www.viddler.com/v/a18e8dc5
The students created their projects as part of their research projects in KHS Advanced Placement Language and Composition Classes. Through this project-based learning experience, students explored multiple perspectives on topics that are important to them and considered solutions to address them.
