Kirkwood School District Board of Education Approves Hire of New Principal of Robinson Elementary School

At the regularly scheduled Kirkwood School District Board of Education meeting on Monday, April 29, the board approved the recommendation for the hire of Dr. La'Kendra Garrett as the new principal for Robinson Elementary School effective July 1, 2024.

Dr. Garrett has over 15 years of experience in education and is currently serving simultaneously as the Assistant Principal at Old Bonhomme and Reed Elementary Schools in the Ladue School District. In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Garrett has served as the Director of Secondary Summer School for the Ladue School District, overseeing program operations, staff recruitment, and student progress monitoring. She has also contributed to school improvement initiatives and reported goals and accomplishments to the Board of Education. Dr. Garrett was also responsible for providing educators with professional development, instructional coaching, and data analysis support. The selection of Dr. Garrett was made based on feedback provided by staff, students, and parents, as well as the input of a committee of members of the school community who assisted with the interview process. Throughout the rigorous hiring process, the thoughts of the Robinson community guided decision making.

“Thank you to the staff, students and parents who participated in our effort to find the next principal at Robinson,” said Dr. David Ulrich, Superintendent. “Dr. Garrett’s experience made it clear she is a committed educator who prioritizes student success. We are excited to welcome her to Robinson, and she is looking forward to meeting the students, families and staff of the school community.”

Dr. Garrett holds a Doctorate of Education in Leadership in Teaching and Learning from Missouri Baptist University. She holds two Master of Education degrees in Divergent Learning from Columbia College and Leadership in Educational Administration from Capella University. She also holds an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University. Dr. Garrett earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University.

Dr. Garrett will succeed Dr. Angeline O’Neal-Hogrefe, who has accepted a position as Director of Data and Assessment in a neighboring school district.
