KSD Announces Head Coach for Football Program
Corey Nesslage, Kirkwood High School athletic director, will recommend to the Board of Education at the upcoming meeting on February 22 that Jeremy Maclin be named the next head football coach at Kirkwood High School. Maclin will succeed Coach Farrell Shelton, who announced his retirement at the end of the 2020 football season after six successful seasons as head coach of the Pioneers.
Maclin has been part of the Kirkwood High School football program as both a former player and assistant coach. While at KHS as a student-athlete, Maclin dominated in multiple sports, propelling him to an All-American career at the University of Missouri. Maclin was named a member of the Kirkwood High School All-Century Football Team in 2007 and inducted into the Kirkwood Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.
In 2009, Maclin was a first-round draft pick in the National Football League (NFL) with the Philadelphia Eagles. Maclin competed in the NFL for ten seasons, playing for the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and Baltimore Ravens.
After retiring from the NFL, Maclin returned to his Kirkwood roots. He has served as both a wide receiver coach and offensive coordinator/quarterback coach the past two seasons for the Pioneers.
"It comes with a great deal of excitement that pending board approval, we are announcing Jeremy Maclin as the next Head Football coach at Kirkwood High School,” said Corey Nesslage, KHS athletic director “ When you look at what Coach Maclin has accomplished on the football field and how the game of football has made a positive impact on his life, we are excited about the possibilities of Coach Maclin leading our young men to show them from a leadership role as the head coach how impactful Kirkwood High School can be for our student-athletes. The athletic program at Kirkwood High School comes with a rich tradition and the football program has been a part of that tradition for many, many years. Coach Maclin has lived and walked the footsteps of that tradition and we, as a community, are very excited to see how Coach Maclin can add to those traditions. We also want to thank Coach Farrell Shelton for his 6 years of leadership within our halls and more specifically the football program. Coach Shelton led the football program to the school's second State Championship in 2016, while also never losing to Webster Groves in the annual Turkey Day Game."
Maclin is looking forward to continuing his coaching career at KHS. "I am deeply honored to be recommended as the next head football coach at Kirkwood High School,” said Maclin. “It is a privilege to return to my alma mater and have an opportunity to share my experiences and perspectives with current and future students at Kirkwood. I have been blessed in my life to have mentors and coaches who have had a lasting impact on me. I am grateful for this chance to play such a role in the lives of today's youth to help fulfill their dreams on and off the field."
