Kirkwood High School Celebrates 36 Student Athletes
During a school ceremony on Thursday, February 2, Kirkwood High School (KHS) recognized student athletes for having either verbally committed or a signed National Letter of Intent to participate in inter-collegiate athletics after graduating from KHS.

Nipher Student Artwork Selected as Winner in Annual Calendar Contest Promoting Healthy Living
Nipher Middle School student Lluvia Matlalcuatzi-Munoz was announced as a winner in the annual St. Louis County Department of Public Health (DPH) Healthy Living 2023 Calendar winner. Her design was one of 13 winners announced from the 254 creative poster submissions from students across the St. Louis area.

KSD Announces New Principal of Kirkwood High School
At the regularly scheduled Kirkwood School District Board of Education meeting on Monday, January 23, the board approved the recommendation for the hire of Dr. Seth Harrell as the new principal for Kirkwood High School effective July 1, 2023. at the start of the 2023-23 school year. Dr. Harrell will succeed Dr. Mike Havener, who will be retiring after serving the Kirkwood School District for the last 29 years.

Kirkwood School District Kicks Off Kindergarten Registration in January
To register, visit the District’s website at https://www.kirkwoodschools.org/register. For online registration, it is recommended that a laptop computer, desktop computer or tablet device be used to complete your child's registration. Registration using a smartphone is not recommended.

KHS Coach Receives Distinguished Coach Award from the Missouri Track Cross Country Coaches Association Award
KHS assistant Track and Field Coach Chris Scott received the Distinguished Coach Award from the Missouri Track Cross Country Coaches Association (MTCCCA) this past weekend at the annual clinic in Columbia. This award is presented annually to outstanding assistant coaches.

Construction Begins at North Kirkwood Middle School
KSD officially broke ground on construction work at North Kirkwood Middle School. Construction will result in eight new classrooms, an enclosed connection corridor to increase safety and security, converting existing space to dedicated space for instrumental music learning, and relocating a new main office.

NKMS 7th grader Ruby Slotkin showed her classmates “How To” make Kindness Bags for those in need. Ruby provided the materials including socks, mints, toothbrush, bandaids, and a granola bar and went through a discussion of these essential things one might want if they were in need and without shelter.

Kirkwood High School Gaming Team Levels Up at State Competition
Members of the KHS esports team placed in the MOSEF state varsity finals for Super Smash Brothers Ultimate singles during an online tournament in early November. KHS senior Charley Crews placed 7th, and junior Carter Monroe placed 17th out of 200 students from some 60 high schools across the state.
