Class of 2022 Awards and KSDF Scholarship Night
On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, two awards ceremonies were held. The first was the Kirkwood School District Foundation's presentation of named scholarship awards, which was held in the Donald Duchek Library at KHS, followed by the Senior Awards presentation in KHS' Keating Theater. Here are the scholarships and awards given on that night, followed by a list of awards/scholarships previously given at other events.

Kirkwood High School Celebrates Seniors Earning Scholarships
During a ceremony on Thursday, April 29, Kirkwood High School recognized 74 senior students who will receive 50% or more of their collegiate tuition paid for by scholarships.

KIRKWOOD HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM WINS STATE
The Kirkwood High School Mock Trial Team won the Missouri High School Mock Trial Competition. This year’s competition was conducted virtually the weekend of April 9-11 and the trials took place over Zoom. The state competition included 16 high schools from across the state. The teams qualified out of 66 teams who completed in opening rounds across the state.

Kirkwood High School Student Art Project Selected for Missouri Senate Exhibition
The box tape project sculpture created by Kirkwood High School junior Elias Muraski was selected to represent the Missouri Senate District 2 in the state capitol as part of the annual Missouri Senate Hall Art Exhibit.

Kirkwood High School Journalism Program Earns First Amendment Press Freedom Award
A committee with representatives from the Journalism Education Association, National Scholastic Press Association and Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society chose 14 First Amendment Press Freedom Award winners for 2021. The Kirkwood High School Journalism program is one of the 14 schools selected. The KHS Journalism program consists of three publications. The names of the programs and their student leaders are: The Kirkwood Call editors in chief are students Amara Harper, Amelia Hurley and Tom Mueller. The Pioneer (yearbook) editors in chief are students Julia Frankel, Audrey Scherr and Ainsley Wade, editors in chief. KHTV producer is student Thaddeus Morgan.

KHS Students Chosen as SemiFinalists in Local Talent Competition
Kirkwood High School students Thaddaeus Morgan, Lucy Schene, and Nate Vaughan have been chosen as Semi-Finalists in the St. Louis Teen Talent Competition. KHS Senior Thaddaeus Morgan is competing as a solo drummer. In 2019 and again in 2020, he and his brother Emmanuel Morgan made it to the semi-finals together playing the piano and drums in their band, Consecrated. KHS Sophomore Lucy Schene is competing as a solo vocalist. KHS Senior Nate Vaughan is competing as frontman and guitarist with his band, Guilty Pleasures, along with four students from other schools. Thaddaeus, Lucy and Nate have all been involved in KHS choir and drama programs. We are very proud of all of them!

Three Female Members of Troop 313G Earn Eagle Scout
Three Kirkwood School District students are members of troop 313G who earned their eagle scout award in the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts. They are Kirkwood High School (KHS) sopmore Kyra Goudsmit, freshman Addie Ludbrook, and senior Maggie Pennington.

KHS Graduate Hadley Weyerich joins the 15th Class of Stamps Scholars
From over 263,000 applications, and only 267 recipients, Kirkwood High School (KHS) ‘2020 graduate Hadley Weyerich was selected to the 15th class of Stamps Scholars. Hadley currently attends the University of Oregon and is studying biology. According to the Stamp Scholars website, students selected as Stamps Scholars are an accomplished network of highly driven individuals who are committed to leaving an impact on their local and larger communities.

The Kirkwood Human Rights Commission hosts an annual essay contest for all juniors enrolled at Kirkwood High School, Vianney High School, or Ursuline Academy, all junior Kirkwood residents enrolled elsewhere, and all 11th grade home-schooled students residing in Kirkwood.

KHS AP Art students Open Reception
KHS AP Art students will be having an opening reception on Sunday, March 1, from 2-4pm at the Monday Club Gallery 37 S Maple Ave. Webster Groves, MO. Students in the show are Lily Bartin, Aleah Bingham, Ben Brehob, Melanie Eickmeyer, William Fuss, Hayley Gilster, Lily Goessling, Ben Harrison, Mary Grace Heartlein, Molly Hoyer, Graesen Joyce, Dora Lanius, Sara Mattingly, Catherine McCandles, Heather McNabb, Rory Meister, Meredith Millstone, Same Priestley, Kathryn Provinse, Kylie Rollings, Tatum Shore-Fitzgerald, Josh Smith, Bismah Syed, Connor Thomas, and Jane Upmeyer. AP Art teachers are Jason Hoeing and Leslie Benben. The art exhibit will run from Feb 26-Mar 24, 2020.

Vocal Students Selected for All-Suburban Honor Choir
Kirkwood High School vocal students auditioned for All-Suburban Honor Choir. Over 600 students from around the area tried out. Each singer had just 60 seconds to impress the judges. Auditions were blind, with judges facing away from singers. Singers were judged on musicality, tone, dynamic contrast, and interpretation. They also had to identify all major key signatures by sight and sight sing two examples of "medium" difficulty. KHS had 12 vocal students audition for All-Suburban and five were chosen to sing in the auditions: Lucy Schene, 10th grade, Alto, selected for Mixed Honor Choir* Casey Stark, 12 grade, Bass, selected for Mixed Honor Choir* Emmanuel Morgan, 12 grade, Bass, selected for Mixed Honor Choir* Collin Stecher, 12 grade, Tenor, selected for Mixed Honor Choir* Abby Maschmann, 11th grade, Soprano, selected for Women's Honor Choir

Kirkwood High School Teacher Selected for C-SPAN Conference
Katie Meyers, English teacher at Kirkwood High School, recently attended the C-SPAN's 2019 Summer Educators' Conference in Washington, D.C. Meyers applied to attend this conference, which was an all-expenses paid event designed to teach educators about the resources available through C-SPAN Classroom. She was one of 29 high school teachers selected from across the US

Kirkwood High School Sophomore Wins Regional Poetry Contest
Kirkwood High School students in Literature Composition Language Arts Classes submitted poetry writings to the Beverly Hopkins Memorial Poetry Contest. The annual contest is organized by the St. Louis Poetry Center and encourages area high school students to submit up to three poems to the contest. The writings of two KHS students were recognized. Sophomore Megan McGhee won the poetry contest for her submitted poems “Rings” and “Oldest Moon.” For winning the contest, Megan will receive a $225 cash prize, her poem will be published in St. Louis Poetry Center’s annual chapbook, and she is invited to read her poem at The Focal Point, 2320 Sutton, at the 60th Annual Poetry Concert on May 19 at 1:30 p.m. Freshman Devon Eldarrat was recognized for her poem “Untitled”.

High school senior Claire Calhoun of Kirkwood High School (KHS) received "Honorable Mention" for the 2019 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program that honors 100 of Missouri's top academic students in the graduating class of 2019.

Kirkwood High School Sophomore Earns Venturing Summit Award
Kirkwood High School student Maggie Pennington earned the Venturing Summit Award. For Maggie’s Summit Leadership Project she planned, organized, and led the construction of five shelving units to store and enable easy access to donations at Epworth Children and Family Services in Webster Groves.
