KHS Racquetball Team Sweeps National Championships
Kirkwood High School (KHS) boy’s and girl’s racquetball teams were crowned the Overall Team National Champions at the USA Racquetball High School Championships held last weekend in St. Louis, MO. Kirkwood Racquetball swept all three division in the tournament, winning Men’s Women’s and Overall Team National Titles. This is the third consecutive overall title for the KHS Racquetball Team.

Kirkwood School District Board of Education Approves Hire of New Principal Assistant Principal at Kirkwood High School
At the regularly scheduled Kirkwood School District Board of Education meeting on Monday, February 28, the board approved the recommendation for the hire of Alex Clark as the new assistant principal for Kirkwood High School effective July 1, 2024. He will work with the KHS Class of 2028.

Kirkwood High School Journalism Program Announced as First Amendment Press Freedom Award School
Students from Kirkwood High School journalism program was one of 28 programs in the country announced by the Journalism Education Association, National Scholastic Press Association, and Quill and Scroll International Honorary Society as a First Amendment Press Freedom Award school for 2024. The KHS journalism program includes The Kirkwood Call, KHTV and Pioneer Yearbook.

Four KHS Seniors Named as Finalists in National Merit Scholarship Program
Four Kirkwood High School seniors have been named as Finalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. All Finalists will be considered for National Merit Scholarship Awards to be offered in 2024. They are: Sydney Ludbrook, Mia Risch, Kat Crawford, and Elizabeth Myers. This achievement places the students amongst the top contenders in the country to share the nearly $28 million in National Merit Scholarships.

Matthew Banks to be Recommended as Kirkwood School District Director of Bands
Kirkwood School District announced that the Feb. 26 Board of Education meeting will include a recommendation for the appointment of Matthew Banks as the Kirkwood School District Director of Bands. Since 2018, Banks has served as an assistant band director in Kirkwood schools and directed bands at Kirkwood High School and both middle schools. Previously, he served as a band director at Central Visual Performing Arts High School and in the Alton School District. The recommendation is pending Board approval.

Kirkwood Kids Finish Strong in Equations Open Competition
Kirkwood kids recently competed in the 2024 University City Equations Open on February 3 at Jackson Park Elementary School. The event is coordinated by the Gifted Resource Council’s Academic Challenge Cup. There were 26 teams, comprised of students from across St. Louis area. The Keysor 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teams swept their grade level competitions. The North Kirkwood Middle School 6th grade teams finished 2nd and 3rd and the 8th grade team finished 1st at the middle school level. In addition, several students also placed for individual awards.

Kirkwood High School Celebrates 29 Seniors Signing Athletic National Letters of Intent
During a ceremony on Thursday, February 8, Kirkwood High School (KHS) recognized 29 student athletes who are continuing their education at various institutions across the country. All students were recognized by KHS principal Dr. Seth Harrell, senior class principal, Dr. Josh Flores, and KHS athletic director Corey Nesslage. Students then participated in a ceremonial letter of intent signing.

Kirkwood High School Robotics Team 23851A Secures Spot in Missouri VEX High School Championship
The Kirkwood High School Robotics Team 23851A, made up of Noah Coletti, Liam Nixon, and Lucas Whiteaker, has qualified for the upcoming Missouri VEX High School Championship after a remarkable performance at the VEX competition held at Ladue Middle School on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024. The team finished 1st overall in the skills portion of the competition.

Today, the Kirkwood School District announced that Dr. Liz Grana will serve as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Grana had been serving in the role as interim since the beginning of the school year.
