Why were there changes made to volunteer background checks?
The update to the District's volunteer processes were necessary due to a recent change in state law, which requires a more extensive screening for all volunteers that may be left alone with students.

Who needs to go through the updated screening process and have their fingerprints taken?
All volunteers that might be alone with students, even those that have previously been cleared/approved, must complete the new fingerprinting requirement. It is not required of volunteers who are under the direct control of district staff and are not left alone with students. If you are not sure whether you need to complete the updated screening process, check with the building where you want to volunteer.
The fingerprinting requirement will be effective starting on Nov. 1. Those wanting to volunteer in a capacity that may require them to be alone with students after Nov. 1 will need to complete the volunteer form and go through the process outlined on HR’s webpage.

The first time I came to the school building, they ran a check using my license. Is this the same as the background check required for volunteers that might be alone with students?
No. Upon entering a district building, all visitors are asked to present an ID such as a Driver’s License, which is then scanned or manually entered into the Raptor system. This system is used for all visitors, but does not meet the legal requirements for volunteers that might be alone with students. Those volunteers must complete the new fingerprinting requirement.

How often will I need to go through this process?
Once the requirements are met, parents will be cleared for the remainder of the time in the district unless there is an institutional change (for example, an alert from the system that changes the person’s status).

I want to volunteer in a capacity where I might be alone with students, but this is a costly process and is a burden for my family. What are my options?
