Our History

  • North Glendale Elementary School opened in the fall of 1938. Two years later the north and south wings were added. In 1964, the south addition was constructed and the gym was rebuilt, moving the school office to its present location in the center of the building. Renovations resulting from a district bond issue in 1993 include technology infrastructure, air conditioning, ADA compliance, library renovation and interior upgrades in the bathrooms and halls.

    The school often serves as a community focus for its namesake, the city of Glendale. The school and city have established a strong working relationship over the years. In 1997, North Glendale School and the City of Glendale collaborated to improve the school’s playground and create a school/community park area. In addition to the playground equipment, benches and a drinking fountain, the North Glendale grounds include a quarter-mile asphalt walking/running path, which is used by both students and residents.

    In 2005, the community approved Proposition I, a two-part bond initiative that provided funds for improvements and infrastructure repairs throughout the district as well as funds to complete the district’s master facilities plan. Prop I improvements at North Glendale include new domestic/fire lines, new fire alarm system, new roofing, tuck pointing, new exterior doors, new ADA lift in gym and new plumbing.

    North Glendale School has a history of ongoing academic excellence. Our learning community is highly rated in the state of Missouri. The school benefits from the support of its school community. A partnership has been formed with the city of Glendale for the purpose of combining resources to benefit instruction. This partnership has allowed the school community to fund and build a new outdoor learning pavilion. In addition, parents, high school students, university students and senior citizens regularly volunteer in classrooms. Through the efforts of all these individuals and organizations the school has established a positive and nurturing environment in which children can learn and grow.
