Welcome to Westchester
Today is the first day of Kindergarten; and even though it isn’t what we all expected for our little learners, it is a very important milestone. You have chosen a wonderful learning environment for your child; our Kindergarten Team is second to none and is truly vested in each and every student. Your child will be educated, challenged, cherished and supported each and every day.
It wasn’t that long ago when I dropped my oldest off for her first day of school, kissing the top of her head and wiping away silent tears as they fell from my sunglass covered eyes. I won’t sugar coat it; it was a sad day for me. However, as the days flew by and I was witness to the incredible community she had instantly become a part of that very first day, my heart was filled with excitement for the many wonderful experiences and opportunities that would come her way.
Another Kindergarten drop off would follow a few years later as we ushered my son to his very first day as a Westchester Wildcat. This time, although I felt sadness, I was so happy that my children could now share this wonderful community. As parents, my husband and I have seen first hand what an education at WE provides. As a family, we have found friendships. As volunteers, we have found community. My hope is that all of you will find the same.
Attached are a few sheets to provide some insight and information that you may find helpful. If at any time you have a question or concern, please feel free to contact me directly. If I don’t know the answer I will put you in contact with a the correct person.
Yours in Service,
Shannon Igney – PTO President
Dear Westchester Families,
My name is Shannon Igney and I will be serving all of you as the PTO president for the 2020 - 2021 school year. Whether you are a returning family or new to our community, please let me extend a warm welcome on behalf of the Westchester Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).
As we are all intimately aware this year will look very different from year’s past. That said, it is the mission of the PTO to support the educational and recreational needs of our students as well as promote communication between the administration, staff, parents and the community. Accomplishing this goal takes the volunteerism of many, and we are very lucky to have a strong PTO Executive Board and Committee Leadership Team in place ready to meet the challenges we find our community in today.
As a parent with a child at Westchester, you are automatically a member of the PTO. We would love for you to show your support by participating in the events and activities planned throughout the year. We are diligently working on establishing the calendar of events, and as soon as we have some concrete information, it will be posted to the website, Facebook and sent to you via email. This year in particular, the calendar will be fluid; so please make sure to check it often. In addition to events, we invite you to attend all or as many PTO meetings as you can. Typically, meetings are held once a month on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Specific dates will be communicated on the website as well as the Wednesday weekly updates and Sunday evening phone calls.
It is most likely that many of our traditional WE events will look and feel different this time around; nonetheless, your time and involvement is essential to a strong and vibrant community.
We will kick off the year with a socially distanced outdoor PTO meeting on Thursday, Aug. 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 at Pioneer Park. All are welcome!
Thank you for all that you do for our WE Wild Cats! I am looking forward to a year of growth and excitement in learning as we navigate this new normal together.
Yours in Service,
