State VEX Robotics V5 & IQ Competition Recap

The Missouri State VEX Robotics V5 & IQ Competition took place this weekend at the St. Charles Community College Regional Workforce Innovation Center. This was the first year in 9 years that all levels of VEX were in one location. The Host schools were Reeds Spring, Gateway Science Academy, Troy, and Kirkwood.

25 VEX IQ elementary schools from across Missouri competed, including Kirkwood School District elementary teams from Westchester, Tillman and Robinson, along with North Kirkwood Middle School and Kirkwood High School competing in V5.

The event featured collaborative gameplay and plenty to celebrate for the KSD teams who took part:


Westchester

Four Westchester teams qualified for the state tournament: Spark Attack, Dynomite, Thrivin' Drivin', and Fresh Fruits, and three advanced to the finals. The students have worked hard all season to improve their coding, driving,  and collaboration with other teams. The school also featured the only all-girls team in the event, which earned the Judge’s Award. Team 63122D placed second in the entire state for the Teamwork Champion Competition.



Tillman

Members of two 5th-grade robotics teams, CWHS and Goated Turtles, qualified for the VEX-IQ State Championship Tournament. This was the first year that our students competed in any official competitions, so qualifying for state was an amazing accomplishment. All the students worked very hard and made a mark for themselves in the competitive world. 


Robinson

The “Robinson Robo Rockstars” qualified to compete at the state tournament for the first time. The team strategized with peers, refined complex ideas under pressure, and met every technical hurdle with a resilient growth mindset. They communicated effectively with alliance partners from other schools to solve complex field challenges and represented Robinson well.


NKMS

Four teams from NKMS competed at the Vex V5RC State Championship.

Team 99766B, The Aliens, won the tournament. Team 99766D, Come Back Later, finished 8th in the skills portion and won the Judge’s award. Team 99766F, ThunderGear, made it to the Semi-Finals and earned 3rd in Skills.

Teams “The Aliens” and “ThunderGear” earned a spot at the World Championships. The 2026 VEX Robotics World Championship will take place from April 21–30, 2026, at the America's Center Convention Complex in St. Louis, Missouri.


KHS

Two V5 teams competed on March 7th: Switchbacks and Dumpster Fire. Team Dumpster Fire won the Judge’s Award.
