Kirkwood School District Board of Education Approves Hire of Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources

At the regularly scheduled Kirkwood School District Board of Education meeting on Monday, June 23, the board approved the recommendation for the hire of Dr. Brian Rich as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, effective July 1, 2025.

Dr. Rich has more than 16 years in various administrative roles in the Francis Howell, Ritenour and University City school districts. Most recently, he served as Director of Human Resources for the Francis Howell School District. Under his leadership, the Human Resources Department revised their systems for harassment reporting and student teacher placement. Additionally, he worked to promote employee recruitment by strengthening and growing new and existing university partnerships. Previously, he was the head principal of Hollenbeck Middle School and Ritenour Middle School. He also served as assistant principal at Ritenour Middle School, director of the Re-Entry Center and interim assistant principal at University City High School.

“Dr. Brian Rich brings 25 years of successful, relationship-driven leadership in education, making him the right person to support our team as we work together to best serve our students and staff,” said Dr. Kenneth Roumpos, incoming superintendent of the Kirkwood School District. “We appreciate the time our panel of staff, teachers and administrators took to assist with this effort, and we look forward to welcoming Dr. Rich to our district.”

The process benefited from the participation of teachers, staff and families in sharing traits they value for the next Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. The selection of Dr. Rich was made based on feedback from a panel of staff, teachers and administrators.

Dr. Rich earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Missouri – Columbia, a  Masters of Educational Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Maryville University.

Dr. Rich will succeed Dr. Howard Fields who was named the Superintendent of the Ferguson-Florissant School District in May.
