Kirkwood High School Students Coordinate Diaper Drive Supporting St. Louis Area Diaper Bank

Kirkwood High School (KHS) students, under the guidance of teachers Mr. Phil Cotta and Mrs. Nikki Luckett, organized the 5th annual diaper drive benefiting the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank. Over the past several weeks, KHS junior class students collected diapers, female personal care items, and monetary donations during homeroom sessions.

In early December, the group presented a check for $811.96 to the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank, marking a successful fundraising effort. Additionally, students and teachers worked together to package and deliver over 1,500 diapers, along with female personal care products, for distribution to families in need.

The KHS Innovation Center, which fosters supportive relationships and promotes meaningful learning experiences, encourages students to engage in projects that empower them to make a positive impact on their community. The Innovate Program, a voluntary initiative, provides students facing challenges with an opportunity for guidance and support. Referrals to the program can be made by counselors, administrators, parents, or students themselves.

St. Louis Area Diaper Bank strives to make a health, social, and economic impact by not only providing diapers and period supplies but by connecting them to these resources and other resources through our partner agencies. Providing families in need with free diapers influences a range of positive outcomes for these families, such as positive changes in parental mood (reducing the risk of childhood abuse); improved child health and happiness (nurturing their ability to learn); and increased opportunities for childcare, work stability, and school attendance.
