Kirkwood Girls Soccer Raises $3,345 for Brain Cancer Research at Annual Kick for Cancer Game
The Kirkwood High School Girls Soccer program hosted its annual Kick for Cancer game on April 10, 2025, benefiting the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA). Despite challenging weather conditions, including rain, high winds, and a delayed start, a dedicated crowd supported this meaningful cause.
This year’s event was in memory Kirkwood School District student Owen Palmore, with over 140 shirts sold featuring the gray ribbon, the symbol for brain cancer awareness. Owen’s brother Elroy did the ceremonial coin toss.
In addition to the game, community support poured in through generous donations. 22 local families and businesses contributed items for a raffle and silent auction, helping raise $3,345 for ABTA.
Since its inception in 2008, the Kirkwood Kick for Cancer tradition has supported various cancer research charities. To date, the event has raised a total of $49,850.
“We’re so grateful for the continued support from our coaches, players, families, and community members who make this event possible year after year,” said KHS soccer head coach Jordan Sabotic.
