Dr. Kenneth D. Roumpos Chosen as Superintendent of Kirkwood School District

At the regularly scheduled meeting of the Kirkwood School District Board of Education meeting, the Board announced unanimous selection of Dr. Kenneth D. Roumpos as Kirkwood’s next superintendent, with an official start date of July 1, 2025. He currently serves as superintendent of the Francis Howell School District in O’Fallon.

“Dr. Roumpos best fit the Kirkwood Superintendent candidate profile, which was developed with great input from students, staff, families and community members this fall. We utilized a national process, which provided the opportunity for the Board of Education to screen and interview outstanding leaders from more than ten states,” said Nikole Shurn, President of the Board of Education. “The Kirkwood Board of Education believes Dr. Roumpos’s background, experience, and passion for education will continue to allow all of our students to grow and thrive. As we embark on our next strategic plan, we are confident he is the right leader.”

Roumpos has dedicated his career to public education, serving over 20 years in teaching and administrative roles at several St. Louis-area districts. He began serving as the Francis Howell School District superintendent in 2022. He joined the Francis Howell School District as deputy superintendent at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in July 2020. Roumpos served 13 years in the Ritenour School District, four years as an Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Leadership Development. Before that, he spent nine years at Ritenour Middle School as Assistant Principal (2007-2009) and Principal (2009-2016). Roumpos also worked in the St. Louis Public Schools system as Assistant Principal of the Shaw Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School. He began his career in education as a teacher in the Mehlville and St. Louis Public School districts.

Roumpos holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy from Vanderbilt University, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Saint Louis University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from MacMurray College. Roumpos is married to Amy, a middle school math teacher, with four children, from middle school to college-aged.

The Kirkwood School Board selected School Exec Connect to conduct a national search for the next superintendent of the Kirkwood School District. The firm assisted the Board of Education with a search plan and timeline and with efforts to gather input from the staff, families, students and the public.
