The Kirkwood School District is committed to providing access to high-quality library media centers and resources. We utilize the reading app Sora to allow students to access ebooks and audiobooks. Within the Sora app, students have the ability to access three different sources of materials: our KSD collection, the Missouri Schools Shared collection, and public library collections. During the annual online registration, families may choose to add the public library collections (St. Louis County, St. Charles City-County, and St. Louis Public) for their student.
Parental controls have been added in Sora. They enable families to see the books their student has access to, view their student's checkout history, and lock individual books. A student needs to be signed into Sora for families to enable parental controls and use Parent Mode.
Enabling parental controls and entering Parent Mode
Unless families restrict their student's access to Sora, all students will have access to the KSD and Missouri Schools Shared collections within Sora. Please note, titles available through the public library are purchased with the general public in mind. If you choose to add access for your student, they may encounter material–whether related to sex or other sensitive topics—that differ from or conflict with your personal or religious beliefs. Families may add or remove access to the public library collections at any time. Families may also restrict their students' access to Sora in its entirety using KSD's restricted checkout form.
