Third Grade Math

Course Description

In this course, instructional time focuses on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of multiplication and division and strategies for multiplication and division within 100; (2) developing understanding of fractions, especially unit fractions (fractions with numerator 1); (3) developing understanding of the structure of rectangular arrays and of area; and (4) describing and analyzing two-dimensional shapes.

Module 1: Early Multiplication and Division

  • Solve multiplication and division problems within 100 using a variety of strategies
  • Fluently multiply/divide to 10 from memory

Module 2: Data and Measurement

  • Create an accurate representation of a given set of data, including line plots with wholes, halves, and quarters

Module 3: Addition, Subtraction, and Place Value 1

  • Solve addition and subtraction problems within 1000 using a variety of strategies

Module 4: Geometry and Measurement

  • Solve problems involving area and perimeter
  • Recognize and draw shapes based on a set of attributes

Module 5: Multiplication and Division 2

  • Solve multiplication and division problems within 100 using a variety of strategies
  • Fluently multiply/divide to 10 from memory

Module 6: Number Sense and Operations in Fractions

  • Represent equivalent fractions using objects, pictures, and number lines - with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10
  • Compare fractions that have the same numerator or denominator

Module 7: Addition, Subtraction, and Place Value 2

  • Solve multi-step problems with addition and subtraction where the unknown might be in any position
  • Solve problems involving area and perimeter

Module 8: Multiplication and Division 3 - Working with Larger Numbers

  • Solve addition and subtraction problems within 1000 using a variety of strategies
  • Solve multiplication and division problems within 100 using a variety of strategies
  • Fluently multiply/divide to 10 from memory
