Class Size Guidelines

Student enrollment in a classroom may increase by as many as ten (10) students for any period that a paraprofessional assists the classroom teacher fulltime, or by as many as five (5) students when a paraprofessional assists the teacher half time. (DESE, MSIP 5, R-4)

Kirkwood Schools recently updated practices for the threshold that results in a new class section being added.  Previously, the District utilized a threshold that resulted in a new section being added when more than 50% of sections were over the current class size guidelines. Starting during the summer of 2024, the district shifted to adding a new class section when one section is over the current class size guidelines. To minimize disruption for students and staff, no sections will be collapsed after the July Board of Education meeting.
