Dear Families,

    This is such an exciting time, whether it is your first student or your third (fourth or fifth!) heading off to Kindergarten, the emotions are real!   We realize you have many questions!  Please know we will be communicating a lot as we get closer to August. For now, though, here is information on some of our most frequently asked questions to hopefully put your mind at ease!

    Kindergarten Parent Information

    When can I see the building?
    As with so many things,  Covid has really restricted our kindergarten welcome! We have high hopes that as numbers decline and safety precautions are reviewed we will be able to host you and your Kindergarten student in the building sometime this summer. 

    When will we know our teacher?
    We announce our class lists for K-5 on August 1 via email from your assigned teacher. We do not change classroom assignments.  

    How many Kindergarten classes will there be?
    As of right now, we are planning for 5 classes of Kindergarten .
    Class sizes do not go above 20 in Kindergarten.

     Who are the teachers?

    Our Kindergarten team consists of:

    • We are currently hiring for our fifth teacher. 


    School Day Logistics

    The school day is from 8:40 – 3:35.  Students can enter the building at 8:25.  After 8:40, students are considered tardy and will need to be signed in at the office.  
    As safety precautions are reviewed and allow, we hope you will be able to walk your student into school for the first 3 days of school.
    After that, we will have you give hugs and kisses at the door of school and we will take it from there! 

    We ask that each parent tell us how your child will be dismissed after school. We will follow that routine each day unless we have changes in writing or a phone message. We love your children but cannot take their word on dismissal changes, we need official word from a parent on the phone or in writing.  We will check our messages in our classroom by 1:00. If you need to contact us after 1:00, please call the office instead of the classroom. 

    Our dismissal routines vary if your student is a walker, attends Adventure Club, is a  car rider or bus rider. More details will be shared at the start of school. It will be important that we know how your student is getting home everyday and that you let your teacher know of any changes.

    For a preview, you can check out information from THIS school year.  There should not be significant changes. 

    Early dismissals are discouraged as our learning time is precious.
    If you need to pick your child up early, you MUST go to the office and sign them out. The secretary will call for your child to come to the office.  We will not call your student to the office until you are physically at school. 

    **We respectfully request that there are no early dismissals after 3:00**

    If you must pick your child up before 3:00, please come to the main doors and communicate with the office. We will not call your child from their class until you are at school. 

    Please label EVERYTHING your student brings to school:  You won't believe the things we find in lost and found! Please use a permanent marker and write full names (initials are hard for us to decipher!). This lets us return things to your kids ASAP. From years of experience, LUNCHBOXES are the first to get lost with our little ones. Label, label, label!

    Please be sure to send your child to school in clothes that can be fastened and unfastened independently. His or her clothes may get dirty with markers, paint, or other materials. Tennis shoes are required for PE class.  It is in your child’s best interest to wear tennis shoes daily to fit the physical nature of our curriculum and play. 

    Extra Clothes
    Please keep a Ziploc gallon sized bag with extra clothes and underwear for your child in their backpack in case of accidents.

    Please check your child’s communication folder each night for notes from school. We will be checking the folders daily as well. Please send them back and forth to school EVERYDAY. This will help children develop a sense of responsibility for their own learning. 

    School Wide and Classroom Expectations
    KSD and NG follows the Restorative Practices mindset when supporting students through any learning mistakes.  You will receive more information on this as we get closer to school starting!

    Every student will be allowed to check out 2 books. If your child does not return their books on time, they will not be able to check out new books. If the books cannot be found or if they are damaged, you will be responsible for replacement fees. 

    You can enter lunch money into your child’s lunch account through the website myschoolbucks.com (preferable) or send money in an envelope to the office.  Kids can also bring a lunch from home. Please note that we are completely nut free school and we do have the ability to microwave or refridgerate any student lunches.

    Before and After Care: The KSD Adventure Club is a tuition based before and after care program. During the 2020-2021 school year, it was suspended due to Covid. We have hopes that some version of AC will be provided and will keep you posted as we know more. You can also watch the Adventure Club webpage for updates.

    A newsletter from your teacher will be emailed home weekly. You will also receive an all school newsletter every Sunday. These letters will keep you updated on our learning and events. Please check your email regularly for other communication and reminders.  If you do not have access to a computer or own an email address, please let us know and we will be happy to send home hard copy notes in your student's folder.

    REST TIME We have a scheduled 20 minute rest time. Your child will need a towel for resting. As the school year proceeds, rest time may be shorter, or eliminated depending on the needs of the group. We will be sending the towels home on a regular basis to be washed and returned the following day. 

    We will be having snack time in the afternoon. Your child’s teacher will communicate their plan for snack time. All snacks must come from the snacksafely.com list.

    Each day your child will be going to either P.E., Music, or Art. We have a rotating schedule  which your teacher will share.  This rotating schedule will also posted on North Glendale’s webpage. 

    Your child will have other teachers for special classes such as Art, Music, P.E., Library, etc. We also have other adults that will be working with your child daily or periodically.

    Other people that may work with your children include friendly Special Education Staff and  lovely Teacher Assistants that will spend time with all students in and out of the classrooms.

    Students are not allowed to bring toys to school unless requested by your teacher. 

    We love to have parents come help and be a part of our learning!  As safety precautions are reviewed and allow, we hope to be able to organize parent volunteers to come into our classrooms to work during reading and math workshop times. We will develop a schedule for volunteers when the classroom community is established and the children are familiar with what’s expected from them so they can be somewhat autonomous amongst their peers. Stay tuned for more information on volunteering. 

    NG has a dynamic Parent Teacher Organization! You will have many opportunities to get involved. The PTO will be reaching out as we get closer to August. 

    No weapons, pretend or real are allowed at school. 

    Please check the North Glendale website regularly.  You can access our staff phone numbers, the lunch menu, our specials schedule, and all of the important information that you need to know.  We try to limit our paper so it’s important to know that you can usually find what you need online.
