    What to expect from the Kirkwood Track & Field Coaches:

    •  Appropriate language and behavior. Respect and dignity toward each athlete as an individual. 
    •  To promote the safety of each athlete and to ask no more in practice or competition than what the athletes are capable of delivering.
    • To promote the conditions and circumstances that encourages each athlete to realize their true potential.
    •  To impose time demands that acknowledges the   primary importance of the athlete's academic and family responsibilities.
    •  To promote among all athletes and coaches a solid sense of team membership.
    •  To utilize the most recent thinking and strategies in the sport.
    •  To be available to parents at times that is mutually convenient.
    •  To work, whenever appropriate, with other school personnel to guarantee the best interests of each of athlete.

    Roberta McWoods-Head Coach

     Roberta McWoods- Head Track & Field Coach

    Grew up as "Army Brat", went to school in Virginia, South Carolina, New York City, California and St. Louis. 1985 Graduate University of Missouri-Columbia. Earned a Masters  degee in Elementary Education & Reading Certification 1992 at UMSL. Retired 2014 (teaching) 29 years North Glendale Elemenatary, Kirkwood School District. Currently serving as Master Mentor KSD 2018-present. 1992-93 Kirkwood School District Teacher of th Year. Track & Field athlete (heptathlon & 400m hurdles) University of Missouri-Columbia 2x All-Big 8 Athlete. Married 26 years, two children ages 25, 23, both graduates of Kirkwood High School. Husband (Ricky), daughter (Bria) 2012 MSHSAA runner-up 300m hurdles. Son (Eric) MSHSAA State Championships Relay finalist, High School Soccer All-American, currently playing professional soccer in Europe. 34 years of coaching experience; Inducted into the Missouri Track and Cross Country Association Hall of Fame 2014. First woman President of MTCCCA, 4 year member of  MSHSAA  Track & Field Advisory Board member as a represenative of St. Louis.

    1992 Graduate of Kirkwood High School. 1997 Bachelor in Mathematics Missouri State University (SMSU) 2010. Masters in Secondary Education Curriculum & Instruction Drury University. 16 years Education 9 years Walking Counselor KHS. 100, 200, 400 & sprint relays KHS 1991 4th-4x200 & 5th-4x100 at State Championships. 1992-1995 Football at Missouri State University. 1993 60m indoors & 100m outdoors. 1995 Captain Football. 1999-2006 Semi-Pro Football NAFL. Three children Devon(18), Kellen(13), Braydon(10). 9 years in Track & Field, 8(KHS) 19 years in Football (KHS).

    Known as "Coach O" to the athletes, Class of 1976 East St. Louis Lincoln H.S. 1980 Graduate Mississippi Valley State University. 2002 Masters in Education Health & Physical Education. Teacher East St. Louis School District 1986-88 .Normandy School District 1988-2014.Wyvetter Younge Alternative Learning Center 2014-present. Track & Field (100m hurdles, Long Jump & Relays) NAIA All American 60m Hurdles and Long JumpHurdle Coach-E. St. Louis Lincoln HS (80’s).Head Coach- Normandy H.S. (90’s). Married and a daughter age 22. 38 years of coaching experience.

    1985 Graduate Southeast Missouri State University. 1985 BS in Elementary Education. 1981 Graduate of Kirkwood School District. Coaching in Kirkwood since 1999 T&F, CC. 1979-1981 2 years of Track and 1 of Cross Country at KHS.State record holder of the 4X800 for 21 years. 1981-1985 Southeast Missouri State University Track and Field, Indoor Track and Cross Country. 1985 All-American in the 1500. Married 20 years, Big Blended family with lots of love. Born and raised Kirkwood! I was the 1981 Spirit Women! 20 years of coaching experience. Love to Coach the kids at Kirkwood!

    1998 Graduate Lindenwood University, 2003 Masters in Education Maryville University. 21 years teaching Kirkwood School District. Track & Field is an amazing sport to coach! In the field events, time is unique-we work on a variety of methods to create a big impact! Throwing is explosive, technique driven and FULL of incredible competition!  I threw in High School and at the collegiate level but mainly played volleyball and basketball through my college career. Married to my husband Omar, we are busy raising our Pioneers in Kirkwood! Our kids all enjoy many sports but have a passion for track as well, their ages 23, 17, 11, 8. Voted as Most Distinguished Assistant Coach by MTCCCA 2018.

    1995 Graduate of SIU at Edwardsville - Chemistry 2008 Graduate Eastern Illinois University – Educational Leadership Current ESY Principal KSD Current Science Department Chair KSD23 years in Teaching Currently teaching Chemistry and Aerospace Engineering. Has coached for 25 years in High School Sports Head Track Coach from 1996 to 2000 (Vandalia and Monticello IL).Assistant Track Coach – Throws 2003 to 2005 (Monticello IL). Married 21 years, Two children ages 18 and 11. Father is a member of the Illinois Football Coaches Hall of Fame. Mother was a Head Track Coach for Gillespie IL. 25 years of coaching experience . 8 years of Track and Field. 24 years of Football.

    Coach Christopher Scott, Assistant Track Coach / Distance 

    30  years of  teaching experience, B.S. Southern Illinois University Carbondale. 40 hours  in counseling and  Sport Psychology. Head coach at  CBC 2003-2010. Assistant coach at SLUH, Berkeley, Riverview Gardens, and Lafayette. Competed at SIU 400m 800m 4x4, 4x8 National qualifier. Married 31 years to Deirdre, Two daughters  Arionna , and Cheridan. 34 years of coaching experience in track and field which has  opened up many opportunites  for me and my objective is to produce athletes who possess tenacity and character in life.

    Richard York, Pole Vault Assistant 

    Age 28, 5 years University of New Mexico, Bachelor's Degree of Univ. Studies and Communications. All-American Multi-Event Specialist, and Javelin thrower for Univ. of New Mexico. All-American Multi-Event Specialist, and Javelin thrower for Univ. of New Mexico. One year student coaching in throws at Univ. of New Mexico. Four years experience coaching Track and Field at the Club and High School levels. Concentrating on the decathlon and javelin primarily … Opened in the decathlon at the Texas Relays with strong marks in the long jump (ninth place), high jump (ninth), discus (fifth) and javelin (fourth) … Won the javelin at the Texas Tech Open with a toss of 195-4 (59.54 meters) before improving his distance a week later at the Jim Click Shootout, where he placed third with a mark of 205-4 (62.58) … Participated in the decathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays, earning first in the javelin … Placed ninth in the 400 and sixth in the high jump at the Brutus Hamilton Challenge, with marks of 49.66 and 6-4 ¾ (1.95), respectively … Placed second in the javelin at the Don Kirby Tailwind Invitational with a mark of 210-4 (64.12) … Despite a disqualification in the 110 hurdles in the decathlon at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, placed third in the decathlon via victories in seven of the eight event: the 100, long jump, shot put, 400, discus, javelin, 800 … Also won the javelin at the MW Championships with a then-personal record of 213-5 (65.05) … Advanced to the NCAA West Preliminary Round in the javelin, where he advanced to the national championships with a personal record toss of 215-4 (65.63) … Placed 24th at the NCAA Championships with a mark of 189-2 (57.67).

    1991 Graduate of Kirkwood High School. Was a sprinter and ran for Coach McWoods. 2008 Graduate Harris Stowe State University. 4 years coaching Kirkwood high School. Track & Field (sprints and relays) Kirkwood High School.
