• Welcome to KIWI, the Kirkwood Writing Institute. This 5-day institute for writers in grades entering 8 through entering 12 will create a community for writers to develop and share their writings, help strengthen writers’ narrative non-fiction, fiction, and poetry skills, and promote writing as an authentic and enjoyable practice.

KIWI’s writing workshops develop skills and techniques in a variety of writer-selected styles, while allowing writers to work with other motivated students, highly- qualified teachers, and local and regional professional writers in an encouraging environment. KIWI writers may travel to various St. Louis locations, including the Art Museum, local coffee houses, and more, to generate and draft pieces.

Writers will have a chance to submit for publication, fine- tune skills for the upcoming school year, and present their best work as part of a celebratory reading at the end of the Institute on Friday evening.
