Unified Night Lights

  • The Kirkwood School District (KSD) held the seventh annual “Unified Night Lights” flag football event. This event recreates the excitement of a traditional football game night – an iconic event in American culture. On Wednesday, September 20 at Kirkwood High School (KHS), hundreds of students came together in a unified flag football event. In a unified game, people with and without disabilities play together – side-by-side – shoulder-to-shoulder. The philosophy behind the event is that sports help provide a path to friendships and understanding and help break down barriers. The inaugural event was held in September 2016 and some 200+ students participated in the event.

The KHS Varsity football players, along with cheerleaders, dance team members, musicians from the band, and students with and without disabilities partnered for this event. Students will storm the field, cheer from the track, and play instruments from the pep band section in the bleachers.
