    Our fourth and fifth grade choir students in the "North Glendale Sound" spent the morning bringing winter cheer to residents at Aberdeen Heights retirement community. "The Sound" performed several songs for the residents. After the concert, students handed out handmade holiday cards and connected one-on-one with residents.

    On Thursday, December 1, KSD officially broke ground on construction work at North Kirkwood Middle School. Construction will result in eight new classrooms, an enclosed connection corridor to increase safety and security, converting existing space to dedicated space for instrumental music learning, and relocating a new main office.

    Ribbon Cutting at KECC, On Thursday, November 17, the Kirkwood School District (KSD) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Kirkwood Early Childhood Center (KECC). In attendance were KSD school board members, school and district staff, KECC students and parents, and community members.

    Kirkwood schools celebrated Veterans Day in a variety of ways including assemblies, tributes, songs, poems and art work. One guest shared, "I've received a more warm welcome here at my grandson's school that I did when I returned from war. Thank you."

    On Tuesday, October 18, KSD will conduct a test of its emergency notification system at 6 p.m. We want to be sure our parents and secondary student are informed of school cancellations due to inclement weather or in case of an emergency in out school community. The annual test of our automatic notification system ensures Kirkwood has accurate contact information for parents and secondary students.

    Starting on Sunday, October 9, KSD will return to the past practice of sending a notification to families with a negative lunch balance in their student(s) account. This feature was disabled the past two school years due to the USDA free lunch program. Since there is no longer funding for that program and individuals need to fund their meal accounts, we are reestablishing this practice.

    As shared and celebrated earlier this week, Kirkwood High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. KHS principal Dr. Mike Havener shared the news with KHS families in a celebratory video earlier this week. KHS is one of 297 schools from across the country that will be formally recognized at an awards ceremony in November 2022 in Washington, D.C. KHS is planning additional celebrations to be announced in the coming weeks.

    KSD has streamlined the required application process to volunteer at our schools. As a reminder, this is in compliance with Missouri law and KSD policy. KSD families can now apply to volunteer for school activities such as field trips by an online application form. This new digitized system will improve turnaround time to get those who want to volunteer in our schools processed sooner.

    Prop R Groundbreakings at Nipher and KHS. We've recently held two groundbreaking ceremonies. On Friday, September 2, KSD officially broke ground on construction work at Nipher Middle School, the oldest building in KSD still in use. Construction will result in 15 new classrooms, enclosed connection corridors to increase safety and security, and a new main office.
