Welcome to a Classroom
Welcome to one of our classrooms.
As you can see from the flooring in this room, this classroom is in one of the oldest parts of the building. When the building first opened, it served grades 9 through 12 as well as grades 7 and 8. After the second building, Francis E. Nipher Junior High was opened for 7th and 8th graders, the buildings were connected with a framed wood pergola. By 1938, the passageway was enclosed.
When the high school and junior high opened, it was at a time when white and African American students did not learn together. Racial integration occurred at Nipher Junior High School after the 1954 U.S. Supreme Court landmark decision Brown vs. Board of Education. Four African American teachers taught in this building, making it the first in the district to be integrated. Today, we work to live up to our motto of “You Belong at Nipher” and ensure every student feels welcome.
