• Course Description

In this course, instructional time should focus on three critical areas: (1) developing fluency with addition and subtraction of fractions, and developing understanding of the multiplication of fractions and of division of fractions in limited cases (unit fractions divided by whole numbers and whole numbers divided by unit fractions); (2) extending division to 2-digit divisors, integrating decimal fractions into the place value system and developing understanding of operations with decimals to hundredths, and developing fluency with whole number and decimal operations; and (3) developing understanding of volume.

Module 1: Multiplication and Division 1

• Use Order of Operations to represent and solve problems

Module 2: 3-D Geometry and Measurement (Volume)

• Find the volume of a rectangular prism using concrete models, pictorial models, and formulas
• Find the volume of two solid figures composed of two non-overlapping right rectangular prisms

Module 3: Addition and Subtraction of Fractions

• Solve problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators and explain why the answers make sense using models and equations

Module 4: Multiplication and Division 2

• Refine strategies for solving multiplication problems fluently, including using the U.S. standard algorithm
• Use the relationship between multiplication and division to efficiently solve division problems with 4-digit dividends and 2-digit divisors

Module 5: Analyzing Patterns and Rules

• Generate numerical patterns to find coordinate pairs and graph them in a quadrant 1 grid

Module 6: Addition and Subtraction of Decimals

• Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to the hundredths place using multiple strategies in multi-step problems

Module 7: Multiplying and Dividing Fractions and Decimals

• Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to the hundredths place using multiple strategies in multi-step problems
• Multiply fractions with fractions and whole numbers using models and strategies to solve real-world situations; explain thinking
• Divide a unit fraction by a whole number and a whole number by a unit fraction using models and strategies
• Convert different-sized units within both measurement systems
