Ms. Lisa Willis

Hi! I am Ms. Lisa Willis and I am so happy to be starting my third year as a special education teacher at Robinson Elementary. I have three adult daughters, Allie, Sasha and Caroline, and my two-year-old granddaughter, Molly. Allie and her family live in Quincy, IL. Sasha is working on her Ph.D. in human factors psychology at Wright State in Ohio and Caroline is working on her computer science degree at SIUE. This will be my eighth year teaching. I was a stay-at-home mom for twenty years while we were living overseas.

We moved to Florida in 2006 where I eventually went back to school so I could start a career in teaching. I was a one-on-one assistant at Sexton Elementary in St. Petersburg for two years while attending grad school. I became a resource teacher at Sexton once I received my master’s degree in 2014. I moved to St. Louis in 2019 to be closer to family. Driving for two days from Florida to see the kids and my sisters, with the dog in tow, was just too much!

I received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Colorado at Boulder, spent a semester abroad at the Université de Haut Bretagne in Rennes, France and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Special Education from the University of South Florida – St. Petersburg. I almost pursued a degree in teaching French but once I heard the words “special education,” I was hooked.

Some of my favorite things, in no particular order, include:

  • Family get-togethers, especially family bike rides

  • Playing tennis and watching the Wimbledon Championships and watching the Tour de France – all 21 stages!

  • Traveling – I’ve been to 6 continents and have lived on 4 of them yet I feel there is still so much to see and explore!

  • Reading – I read 5 books over the summer

  • Current favorite TV show: Hang Ups

  • All-time favorite movies: Waking Ned Divine and Diva (the 1981 version directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix)
