The St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra (SLSYO) announced their selections for the 2021-22 season. Of the 100 young musicians representing more than 40 schools throughout the bi-state region, two are members of the Kirkwood High School Orchestra Program. They are: Nathan Bronstein (junior) Violin and Mallory Mihm (sophomore) Viola - Alternate. For their selection, the student musicians auditioned for a panel of St. Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians. As a member of the SLSYO, the student musicians will rehearse and perform challenging orchestral repertoire under the direction of the SLSO Resident Conductor Stephanie Childress, musicians receive regular coaching and mentoring from the world-class musicians of the SLSO. SLSYO presents three concerts per season in historic Powell Hall.
The Kirkwood Call was one of nine school publications named as George H. Gallup recipients in the 2021 Quill and Scroll News Media Evaluation service. Named for the founder of Quill and Scroll and the Gallup Poll, the award is given only to those publications that achieved and sustained excellence during the 2020-2021 academic year. Gallup Award recognition is based on extraordinary improvement, exceptional service to the school and community, editorial campaigns, and in-depth reporting on special issues. The Kirkwood School District has launched a podcast. KSD Talks is the official podcast of the Kirkwood School District. This will allow the public to hear from District offiicials, who will go in depth on topics important to Kirkwood schools, students and families.
