Social Studies
Westchester's goal in social studies is to provide students appropriate, hands-on experiences to help them become productive citizens within the classroom, school, and greater community. Teachers use various teaching methods, such as Socratic Seminar, to engage students in critical thinking and discussion of social studies topics. Cooperative learning strategies are also used to encourage students to work together in small groups as they explore content and solve real-world problems. We believe that social studies instruction helps students develop a critical understanding of history, geography, economics, civics, and culture.
