Where am I?
Principal's Message
August 2008
Dear Westchester Families,
On behalf of the entire faculty, I welcome you to the 2008-09 school year at Westchester Elementary School! We are excited to be back and look forward to a new year of learning and growing together.
This summer, we experienced construction and improvements to our building. Our kindergarten, first, second and fourth grade classrooms all received new HVAC units, and a new sprinkling system was installed for fire protection throughout our entire school. Improvements were also made to our primary and intermediate playgrounds.
Currently, we are very excited about the installation of active boards in each of our third, fourth and fifth grade classrooms, and the arrival of seven wireless laptop carts to be used in classrooms throughout the building.
Westchester has experienced many successes within the last year. Last November, we received the distinguished honor of being named a NCLB National Blue Ribbon School. In May, Westchester was only one of four Missouri schools to be selected for the Missouri Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) Gold Level Award. We received this honor for two consecutive years! Forming strong relationships is very important to us, as we continually strive to foster a learning environment where all members of our Westchester community feel valued and safe. At Westchester, our goal is to work with all of our stakeholders (students, parents, staff, and community members) to ensure that ALL Westchester students are successful learners
Grade level curriculum nights will be occurring within the first few weeks of school. If possible, please make time to attend these informative meetings. Teachers will be sharing curriculum expectations and giving you a glimpse of your child’s school day. In late September, we will be having our first Parent-Teacher Conferences. These “in-take” conferences are scheduled early in the year to provide you, the parent, with an opportunity to share your goals and dreams for your child.
I look forward to another great school year and the new adventures we will encounter together. Thank you in advance for your support and continued involvement in the education of our children.
Sincerely,
Chrisel Clay, Ed. D.
Principal
