Weather Emergency Schedules

In the winter months, severe weather may affect normal school schedules. When weather emergencies are declared, the Kirkwood School District may use one of two plans:

Plan 1 — SNOW DAY — Schools are Closed All Day

·   All elementary, middle schools, Kirkwood High School and the Kirkwood Early Childhood Center are closed.

·   Buses do not run.

·   Before- and after-school activities are cancelled.

·   Assistants, teachers, nurses and food service personnel DO NOT REPORT.

·   Administrators, office, custodial and maintenance personnel REPORT as soon as possible.

Plan 2 — SNOW SCHEDULE — Schools Start One Hour Later than Regular Time

·   

All schools open one hour later in the morning and close at the regular time. 

Kirkwood High School Opens: 8:50 a.m.

North Kirkwood Middle School Opens: 9:15 a.m.

Nipher Middle School Opens: 9:20 a.m.

Tillman/Westchester Elementary Schools Open: 9:45 a.m.

—PM Kindergartens Open at Regular Time: 12:35 p.m.

Keysor/North Glendale/Robinson Elementary Schools Open: 9:40 a.m.

—Keysor/Robinson PM Kindergartens Open at Regular Time: 12:30 p.m.

Kirkwood Early Childhood Center Full-Day Preschool Opens: 7:30 a.m.

—KECC Half-Day Preschool Opens: 9:30 a.m.

·   Buses run one hour later in morning, but leave school at regular afternoon time.


·   All employees report as soon as possible. (Instructional employees report one hour later than regular start time.)


·   No Elementary Instrumental Music Program.

NO ANNOUNCEMENT MEANS SCHOOLS OPERATE ON REGULAR SCHEDULES.

You may receive a phone call from the district though SchoolReach, the district's telephone broadcast system that enables school personnel to notify all households and parents by phone within minutes of an emergency, school cancellation or late start. IMPORTANT: Be sure you provide your child's school with your current home, work and cell phone numbers. The calls will automatically be made to all listed phone numbers in our parent contact lists and will deliver a recorded message.

You may listen or watch for announcements on radio/TV. Please note that stations report this information at various times and in various formats and that stations may change their participation. School closing is also posted on the websites for many of these stations.

The decision to implement the weather emergency schedule is made by Dr. David Damerall, Superintendent of Schools, with the safety of students and staff as top priority. In his absence, the decision is made by an assistant superintendent. The Kirkwood Police Department is asked to report road conditions to the superintendent by 4:45 a.m. and to provide information that will assist in an early decision.
