Student Health Services and Requirements

The Board of Education provides for the health and physical well-being of students through the establishment of a district wide student health services program in the school district. The purpose of the district health services program is to help each student attend school in optimum health, and to benefit from the school experience.

Registered Nurses are employed to staff the health services program. They serve under the direction of the building principal and the Office of Student Services. All contacts with parents/guardians regarding health services will be made by the nurse or designated school personnel. The provisions of the student health services program will include the following items:

  • Continuous health assessment of all students at all grade levels. All students shall be subject to a perfunctory examination by the school nurse whenever such examination is deemed necessary.
  • The administration of state laws which protect the health of children attending public schools in Missouri. The laws require: Immunization against certain contagious diseases. Exclusion from attendance of students having contagious diseases or who are not in compliance with state regulations concerning immunizations.
  • Emergency first aid treatment for accident or illness occurring during the school day.
  • Guidance and counseling concerning health problems of students.
  • Maintenance of student health records.
  • Participation in district's health education program.rn- Screening tests for defects in vision and hearing. Parents/Guardians will receive a written notice of any defects which interfere or tend to interfere with a student's progress.
  • Routine nursing care.

The student health services program does not include diagnosis, treatment, or the administering of medicine for physical ailments of which the parents/guardians are aware before the child is sent to school, unless special arrangements have been made with the health services staff.
