Kirkwood Board of Education Sets Tax Rates for 2008-09

The Kirkwood Board of Education approved tax rates for the 2008-09 school year at its meeting on Monday, Aug. 25. The tax rates were set based on the school district’s 2008 assessed valuation, minus TIF properties, which is $1,278,634,770.

KSD 2008 Support Services Outstanding Performance Award Winners Announced

August 21, 2008

Kirkwood School District Support Services Outstanding Performance Award winners for 2008 include Ron Chiaramonti, Carol Kennedy, Tishan Rounds, Dave Robinson and Linda Huber. Honorees Sue Emmer and Carlos Glenn are not pictured. Michael Havener, assistant superintendent for finance and operations, announced this year’s recipients at the district’s opening day program for staff on Aug. 13.

Kirkwood Kindergarten Teachers and Kirkwood Public Library Host “Countdown to Kindergarten” for Area Children

Three Kirkwood School District kindergarten teachers—Jennifer McCoy and Kelly Renner of Keysor Elementary School and Amy Grady of Robinson Elementary School—joined with Sarah Erwin, children’s director of programs and youth services for Kirkwood Public Library, in hosting “Countdown to Kindergarten” on Aug. 16.

Spotlight: Our Community

KHS Class of 2008 welcomes Mike Swoboda, former mayor of Kirkwood, as an honorary member.

To honor Mike Swoboda for his longtime commitment to the community and to the Kirkwood School District, Dr. David Damerall, superintendent of schools, Matt Cottler and Scott Stream, members of the Kirkwood School District Board of Education, presented Swoboda with an honorary degree and the official KHS red cap and gown at the Kirkwood City Council meeting in April. Among his many contributions to the school district, Swoboda has served as a classroom volunteer for Robinson Elementary School for more than 15 years.

In his last official act as mayor, Swoboda spoke to a standing-room only crowd at the council meeting and thanked the community for its support. He encouraged all to keep Kirkwood a strong and beautiful place forever.
