Special Education
Where am I?
The Kirkwood School District is committed to working with parents to meet the educational needs of all of our students. A variety of special services are available in our schools to assist students whose educational needs require supports beyond what is typically provided within the general classroom.
Your child’s classroom teacher is the first person you should contact for guidance on how we can best work together to support your child’s educational needs. Other key building staff include your child’s counselor, school nurse, principal and assistant principal. If your child is already participating in a special program, or if you believe your child may be in need of special services, you should contact your child’s classroom teacher, counselor or principal for assistance. SPECIAL EDUCATION AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL
Special School District - Our department provides special education services for 325 of the 1619 students currently enrolled at Kirkwood High School. The disabilities of these students range from Learning Disability (LD) diagnosis (in one specific areas such as math) to a student who has Down's Syndrome.
Our department is located in the Learning Resource Center which is located above the library. The LOFT is an area where students can come throughout the day for a quiet place to work on assignments and take assessments.
