Where am I?

 

What is Math Focus?

Math Focus is the name for a variety of supplemental math intervention programs and services offered by the Kirkwood School District. Math Focus programs are designed to help students improve in the areas of math concepts, computation, problem-solving and fluency.

What are Math Focus Interventions?

Math Interventionists work directly with classroom teachers to ensure all students in each grade level are receiving math instruction designed to match their math readiness. Supports and interventions may include: collaborating with classroom teachers to facilitate effective math instruction for all students in a grade level, modeling whole class lessons, teaching small groups and one to one intensive instruction.

What will my child be taught?

Students are taught using district math objectives for their grade level. Skills taught may include but are not limited to: counting, computation, number concepts, problem-solving, mathematical relationships, fluency Teachers build confidence by supporting students through math challenges until they meet success.

How can I help my child?

expecting your child to work hard to learn mathematics


sharing how you use mathematics everyday


playing games that make learning fun and important


solving problems together and exploring different ways to solve the same problems


asking your child questions as s/he solves problems


examining why solutions are correct and incorrect


supporting your child as s/he completes homework assignments
