Prevention
Where am I?
These guidelines assist our students and school personnel in developing their prevention skills. Students are being taught mediation skills (problem solving and communication) and ways to handle their emotions--especially anger--without hurting others. These skills will help them avoid potentially dangerous situations. Students are also being taught "safe" behaviors such as doing activities in groups, alerting school personnel if a stranger is on school grounds, and reporting situations that threaten other students' safety.
School personnel are trained in recognizing a potential student conflict and mediating the situation to ensure a respectful and safe learning environment.
Parents provide a vital role in helping to ensure a safe learning environment at school. After the school day, parents provide the extra eyes and ears that help keep schools informed. In communications with your child, please contact the school with any stories or situations that concern you with regard to your child’s health, safety and comfort at school.
