Dear Third and Fourth Grade Parent:
We are beginning the enrollment process for the Elementary Instrumental Music Program. In the next week, members of the instrumental music faculty will visit each elementary school and provide an opportunity for students to try out various instruments. Following this introduction, your child will bring home an evaluation sheet indicating a possible preference for a particular instrument. Additional information will also be provided about our Elementary Instrumental Music Program.
3rd GRADE ORCHESTRA INTRODUCTION
3rd graders will have the opportunity to try out orchestra instruments for our beginning orchestra classes available next year to 4th graders. Each student will have the opportunity to hold and learn a bit about each of the string instruments available:
- Violin
- Viola
- Cello
- Double Bass
At the conclusion of this activity, students will have a suggested recommendation for the instrument that might best fit each student.
4th GRADE BAND INTRODUCTION
4th graders will have the opportunity to try out band instruments for our beginning band classes available next year to 5th graders. Each student will have the opportunity to hold and learn a bit about each of the band instruments available:
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Trumpet
- French Horn
- Trombone
- Baritone
- Percussion
At the conclusion of this activity, students will have a suggested recommendation for the instrument that might best fit each student.
Note to 4th graders:
- If you are enrolled in beginning orchestra, you may participate in the band instrument evaluation, but not because we expect you to change instruments! Please discuss this with your current orchestra teacher if a change is being considered.
- If you are interested in beginning orchestra as a 5th grader, please let your classroom teacher know this so you can participate in the presentation and evaluation with the 3rd grade students.
