Where am I?
Music Education

Music class may have changed since your parents (or yourself) were in school!
Music Education is . . . . .
Listening: We learn about composers, both living and dead, and listen to some of their most famous compositions. We learn about instruments of the orchestra and listen for style, tempo, dynamics and much more!
Learning to Read and Understand Written Music: We spend a lot of our music education time learning and memorizing the music terms and symbols, their meaning and how they are used to read music.
Performing: Every student at North Glendale is given the opportunity to sing in music performances at school and in the community. Preparing for performance teaches us about goal setting, perseverance, teamwork and public speaking.
Playing Instruments: Students start playing rhythm instruments and Orff instruments in grade 1 and begin studying the recorder (early ancestor of the flute) in 3rd grade.
Moving: Movement is an important part of music education and focusing on large motor skills as well as fine motor skills starts in kindergarten and first grade. Folk dances from America and other countries add to our knowledge. Music brings us all together!
Singing: We learn how to use our singing voice and to care for our voice. Proper singing techniques and different vocal styles are explored.
"MUSIC IS THE VOICE THAT TELLS US THAT THE HUMAN RACE IS GREATER THAN IT KNOWS" --Marion C. Garretty
