North Kirkwood Middle School Seventh Grader starts Club to Support Animals and has Article Published in C3 Magazine
August 19, 2010

An article written by Carson Keeling, a seventh grader at North Kirkwood Middle School (NKMS), was published in the Random Kid section of C3 Magazine, a print and online publication that highlights philanthropic giving and grassroots nonprofit agencies, contributors, foundations and volunteers. Carson’s article tells the story of how she founded PAWSS, a club for animal lovers, and the group’s successful first year.
In May 2009, Carson invited girls from her elementary school (Keysor) to join PAWSS (Passionate Animal Lovers Working Side-by-Side). In addition to Carson, the PAWSS members include NKMS seventh-graders Katy Donnelly, Lauren Marten, Olivia Molloy, Amanda Mark, Kristen Doyle, Meridian Buckner-Swain, Christina Camarato, Elise Saunders, Grace Noonan and Christina Koch. The club’s purpose is for animal lovers to celebrate animals together and find creative ways to help them, such as volunteering, adopting an animal from the zoo, or even buying a goat for villages in Africa. During their first year, the PAWSS Club elected officers and held a successful bake sale with proceeds of $550 donated to Stray St. Louis animal shelter. According to Carson’s article, the future looks bright for the PAWSS club. To read her story, visit the C3 Magazine website.
