District offers Summer Adventure Program for Students K-5
January 30, 2009
The Kirkwood School District is offering the Summer Adventure Program, a new summer learning option for students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
The program features learning activities in two areas: Summer Enrichment and Sports Blitz. The Summer Enrichment Adventure provides academic enrichment in the areas of science, mathematics, fine arts, technology and other areas. The Sports Blitz Adventure offers team/individual sports, teamwork, and fitness learning experiences.
The Kirkwood Summer Adventure program will be held at Tillman Elementary School, 230 Quan Ave. Kirkwood School District teachers will lead the sessions, which run for nine days from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
The schedule for the three sessions is:
Session One: June 8 – June 18
Session Two: June 22 – July 2
Session Three: July 6 – July 16
Each session of the Summer Enrichment Adventure program will consist of four courses. Upon registration, children are placed in grade-level appropriate Adventure Teams for each session. A child will be placed in a team based on his or her grade-level for the 2008-2009 school year. As a team, students will transition daily through all of the various courses offered. Teachers will adapt course topics accordingly, depending on the developmental and grade-level needs of the children. This will expose children to a wide variety of learning experiences. Each of the three sessions will offer different course topics.
The Kirkwood Summer Adventure Program will accept 80 students per session for the Summer Enrichment Adventure and 40 students per session for the Sports Blitz Adventure.
Registration opens Feb. 24. To register, parents must complete a registration form and mail it to:
