Fundraising Underway For KHS Class of 2009 After Graduation Party

October 10, 2008

School has just begun though many parents of Kirkwood High School (KHS) seniors are already looking ahead to graduation day — and to this year’s After Graduation Party.

The KHS After Graduation Party, to be held at the Lodge in Des Peres, is an alcohol and drug free celebration. A long-standing tradition, it is designed to “keep seniors safe and give them one last chance to be together before going off into the world,” says Marie Furlong, co-chair of this year’s event with Becky Stanza.

The entire event is planned, hosted and chaperoned by parent volunteers. The After Graduation committee has begun contacting community businesses in an effort to secure in-kind and cash donations to help support the event. For Betsy Humphreys, solicitation committee chair, this is a cause she whole-heartedly believes in. “I wish there had been something like this when I graduated,” says Humphreys. “More than 95% of seniors attend this event. As parent volunteers I think providing this safe, fun environment after graduation is one of the best things we can do for our kids.”

Most of the items donated will be used for a silent auction at the KHS Trivia Night, to be held on February 28 in the high school’s new gym. All proceeds from the trivia night go to help fund the After Graduation party.

Following this year’s graduation at Queeny Park on May 30, students can head to the Lodge, which will have been decorated according to this year’s theme: “Adventures in Wonderland.” The evening will be filled with food, games, live entertainment and prizes for every attendee.
